Architectural favorites

So yesterday we spent the day at the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show where although greatly downsized still had new and interesting inspirations to offer. Of course we all have seen the great shift to use "sustainable, green, water wise" plants and materials, and I understand the importance of this trend but for someone who enjoys a wide and varied planting palette it does begin to feel a little stifling.  But we DID find some new tidbits to take away.
Some of my favorite plants despite my best efforts to have some semblance of originality ARE the drought tolerant and low maintenance plants that almost anyone in Northern California can grow.

If flowers are not your thing, consider using some of these brightly foliaged plants with emphatic presence.  Combining in mass can result in some very interesting combinations.
